An introduction to the new generation of Hainanese Curry Rice specialists

An introduction to the new generation of Hainanese Curry Rice specialists

“What I learned was the quality of continual reinvention.” – Merrie Spaeth
Since our month long renovation in June 2014 along with the trendier sounding name change(
originally Cheng Delicacies), the eatery has been nicely spruced up to accommodate a more comfortable and welcoming atmosphere to our existing clients. Our initial intention behind the revamp was to make the place more inviting to our loyal customers, so we neither went overboard with the renovation nor make the place overly hipster. What we did was install a new kitchen exhaust, have spiffy new wooden coffeeshop tables replacing previously chipped marble tables and plastic chairs. And last, but most importantly, a new dessert counter showcases their range of homemade cakes, traditional kuehs.
And it worked!
It not only appealed to our customers, it successfully stretched our diner demographics!
As a 25 year old eatery whose traditional recipes have been passed down from 3 generations, we didn’t expect the stretch in our diner demographics to include the youthful weekend shoppers. So it was definitely a treat for us that now, we observe that younger diners bring in their parents and grandparents in for a meal. We used to only get parents who would bring their children in here for dinner. It is always nice to witness how our infused traditions are shaping up beautifully in today’s modern society!
Speaking of treats, we always ensure customers are treated as old friends, especially on their first visit. So dear reader, if you haven’t yet popped by our eatery be sure come down and say hi! Also! If you intend on making that first visit here are 3 popular signature food dishes(and description) to get you started on the experience:
Crispy Pork Curry Rice

Although the curry is not very spicy, this pork, fried to perfection(not oily at all) is extremely flavorful.
Steamed Pork

Lovely tender pork belly drenched in a garlicky black vinegar sauce, with lingering scent of coriander.
Foo Yong Egg

Do not be fooled by its generic omelette appearance, our Foo Yong Egg is light and fluffy. The
onions inside are cooked just right no harshness but not soft and mushy either. I’ll be detailing our famous Gula Melaka delicacies in my next post, so stay tuned!
